I don't know for how long this video will be up, but here is a cool Discovery Channel documentary on the history of videogames. It's pretty informative and it really took me back. Then I got a crazy, wild-eyed scientist to help me get back to the future by hooking jumper cables to a clock tower and...
well that's another story for another time.
I avoided it for oh, so long.
I heard all the talk about how it was the most awesome thing since sliced orgasms.
I heard all the rave reviews. The adoring fans droning on about how it could very well change the fabric of existence.
I heard how it could spin straw into pure gold.
I just kind'a shrugged.
"There's nothing to this Warcrack thing."
I saw the Southpark episode where the brats kids are obsessing over World of Warcraft.
Nothing.
I picked up the box a bajillion times at Walmart. I opened the front cover to view all the colorful images and detailed information about gameplay.
I always set it back on the shelf and walked away.
And then... one day... I'm with my son in the Electronics department searching for a new Dora the Explorer or Thomas the Tank Engine or Bob the Builder video. He's taking his sweet time mulling over the pros and cons of each video.
"Dora is funny."
"Thomas is my favorite."
"Bob is awesome! Can he fix it? Hell yeah!"
Okay, he didn't really say "Hell yeah!"
So anyway, while he's searching I glance over and what do I see? World of Warcraft marked down to $19.95.
$19.95? Chump change!
So what the heck, I picked it up. I've spent $20 on crazier things.
Crazier? More crazy?
And I have to say that it really is a lot of fun. I've been playing now for several weeks and I really enjoy it. I've peddled the game off - like crackrock - to several of my friends, and we've had a great time exploring the VAST World of Warcraft world together.
More on this as it develops.

HERE is an interesting link to a page talking about using craft "perler beads" to create videogame pixel art. Crafty!
I mentioned a podcast yesterday that I did. It just went live online and I sound very Alabama, and say "yeah" and "you know" a lot. For fun, let's count the number of times Rush says "you know!". Read the article and listen to the podcast here : AL.com
If you're coming here from AL.com's article, welcome and check out my other, older blog at http://the_outernet.blogspot.com where you can see years and years of my videogame snobbery. The Nintendo Wii is a super kid-friendly game system, but my blogs are not. While certainly not vulgar, there are items on my blogs that I would definitely classify as kid-unfriendly, so surf them at your own risk.
And if you are a parent or a confused gamer, feel free to drop me a line at rush3rd@gmail.com, and I'd be more than happy to field your questions... such as "what is a videogame console?" or "why do you talk about your wii so much?".
I just did a podcast interview for AL.com (a local Alabama online news site) on the release of the next generation consoles - Xbox 360, Sony PS3 and Nintendo Wii.. Although I was too broke to afford any of them, I do keep up with videogames in an obsessive way, so I was recommended as an "expert" in the field of games and did a 30-45 minute podcast interview (along with fellow blogger Shadowhelm of An Utter Waste of Time) hosted by Kenny Smith of AL.com. Both were super guys and it was a lot of fun. I'll have a link up tomorrow when it goes live.
